Mapping Slave

Postby Techno1337 » Thu Jul 15, 2010 2:32 pm

Hello,

Been real busy mapping for the game mode, This topic is for me to post my works of art. Constructive criticism is a plus.

gm_Insane:
Insane is the first map for the gamemode, Its name comes from the fact that i had to start over so much that it made me go insane.

gm_flatwater:
Flatwater is my build map. Its idea came from flatgrass I thought it could use a overhaul and this was the result.

Are they both on the server now? Let me check them out tonight and make some notes.

Last night on the old version of flatwater, I was trying to build a sled on the hill platform and slide from the hill to the far platform. It was pretty challenging and I had to modify the hill with ramps. Also the bridges don't quite line up. Great fun!

Constructive criticism for gm_flatwater2010_v2 .

Looks really cool!

Positive: I like the lights in the formerly dark building. I like different levels of the platforms. The rotating smiley face on a stick is a nice touch! I like how the floor of the map has hills on it now.

Negative: The stalls under the rotating cube seem a little enclosed. They could either use doors that open, or an elevator that drops them to the sea. Maybe make them full building rooms. Also you could maybe make something similar for the platform next to the water. so that people have a place to build there. Like water-filled stalls.

Spoiler: (Select with cursor to see) The lights on the walls in the new underwater secret place need a source, but I'm sure you know that.

Various tweaks: If you stand on the ledge with the toxic waste, you take damage. Seems weird to me, but I guess if it was radioactive enough you would get hurt being close.

I like what you have done!

PS: This ain't right!

GM_Insane

Was really cool till a guy crashed the server. Not sure about that.

Pro: I like the mountains, and the rabbit holes. The tunnels are awesome for hoverboard (I possibly crashed server doing a trick in them). The crater lake is cool.

Cons: Water is too deep in the lakes. (Not sure if this is necessary for the game mode) The colors are weird when you get to the bottom of the rabbit holes. I spawned under the spawn platform when I joined the map. (Could be for other reasons though).
The map looks stitched together by some of the mountains. There is a outline around where the mountains start.

Tweak: I couldn't find it, but make a tunnel at bottom of crater lake. or something, maybe a meteorite.

I like your maps!

Thanks for the review, I'm working on the next versions of the maps.
Also, if you have any ideas for a map let me know I am always looking for new ideas
